| Teens Can Make a
Difference |
| |
|
 |
While walking by the sea one day a group
of teens came upon an area littered with starfish. Hundreds
of thousands of starfish were stranded on the shore. The
teens knew that if the starfish were not returned to the
sea they would die. So, they started throwing starfish
into the ocean as quickly as they could. |
|
| After a time, an old man came along and asked what they were
doing. The teens explained that they were saving starfish, that
if the starfish were not returned to the water they would surely
die. The old man surveyed the scene. Hundreds of thousands of
starfish were on the sand. |
| |
| "Don’t you kids see that this is hopeless?"
he said. "There are so many starfish, there is no way you
kids could make a difference!" The teens looked at the
old man, and looked at the starfish that covered the shore.
One teen picked up a starfish and threw it into the sea. "Made
a difference to that one," she said, and they all continued
to throw starfish into the ocean as fast as they could. |

Teens strongly influence each other’s
decisions. CAPTeens act as positive role models in their
peer group. The goal of this program is to empower adolescents
to be effective decision makers in their own lives and
be valuable resources to their peers and to the community. |
|
| |
| CAPTeen outreach makes knowledgeable teens available to peers
when and where information is needed. |
| |
| CAPTeens provide an important source of information and answers
to questions about abstinence, health, sexuality and reproduction,
as well as other issues concerning today's teens. |

| CAPTeens is an abstinence-based program, which conducts "Info-jams"
