| The CAP/Next Step Teen Parent
Panel is an abstinence-based program designed to reduce the
incidence of teen pregnancy in Chemung County. Through presentations
aimed at youth and other community members, panelists talk candidly
about how their lives have changed since becoming a parent at
a young age. |
| |
| Teens strongly influence each
other’s decisions. Members of the Teen Parent Panel seek
to educate their peers on the responsibilities and hardships
of being a teen parent. The panel believes that through sharing
their experiences, they can encourage young people to make more positive
decisions about their behaviors that can have such a profound impact on their futures. |

Presentations |
|
| Panelists portray an honest and realistic picture
of what it is really like to be a teen parent. Presentations
can include information on financial issues, single parenthood,
lack of privacy, and loss of freedom. Myths regarding sexuality
and becoming pregnant may also be addressed. |
| |
| Presentations are tailored to be appropriate for
any age group from 6th grade up, with a special emphasis on
abstinence for younger audiences. |
| |
| If you cannot host a presentation of the Teen
Parent Panel, but would like the opportunity to share their
stories with your class or group, you may want to order our
32 page booklet, "A Baby...How my life Changed". This
is a collection of Chemung County teen parent stories as told
by the teens themselves. For a sample see the Teen Parent Stories.
In addition, a video and teaching guide "A Day in the Life
of a Teen Parent" is also available. |
