| The CAPTeen
Mission: |
| |
| The CAPTeen Program is one
component of a community grant aimed at addressing the issue
of teen pregnancy. CCAPPP, or the Chemung County Adolescent
Pregnancy Prevention Program, is a collaborative effort of several
area agencies and organizations. This project’s goal is to reduce
teen pregnancy. |

| The Opportunities
of CAPTeens |
| |
| The structure of the CAPTeen
Program offers the opportunity for the teens in the group to
develop skills in leadership, communication, facilitation and
decision-making. |
| |
| Preparation
to Become a CAPTeen: |
| |
| Students receive a minimum of 35 hours of
training before giving presentations. This training includes
information needed to deal with issues involving abstinence,
refusal skills, sexuality, reproduction, sexually transmitted
infections, relationships, referral sources, presentation
skills, and other sensitive issues affecting personal
health. |

| To be a CAPTeen,
you must: |
| |
- Be an Elmira Free Academy or Southside High School student
|
| |
- Be grade eligible (must maintain a passing grade in all
courses)
|
| |
|
| |
- Have 3 recommendations (not a relative or close friend,
at least 2 must be from teachers or employers)
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
- Be available to attend required training and group meetings
|
| |
- Be available during and after school for presentations
|
| |
| |
